The LORD turns your Benoni to Benjamin PDF Print E-mail
’And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.’’ (Genesis 35:18)

One of the saddest stories in the Scriptures is here related.

Having longed for a large family for many years, Rachael the beloved wife of Jacob died giving birth to her second child and just before she comes to the land of her dear husband.

Having her first child Joseph, Rachael could not wait for The LORD to add another child to her hence the name Joseph. Then she dies, just at the brink of seeing her dream come to pass. She experienced hard labour  and realising she would not live to see her dream, she couldn't help but utter her sorrow upon it. She named the child Benoni meaning son of my sorrow.

Jacob, a man of The Spirit however, quickly intercepted and changed the destiny of the child by calling him Benjamin, which means son of my right hand. Surely Jacob was not going to allow the negative incident to dictate to him. He spoke life over death, joy over sorrow, strength over weakness. - son of my right hand! The right hand is the hand of strength, that which prevails. Jacob would not allow his beloved son to be forever saddled with sorrow. He saw hope instead of despair and changed the name!

May we also learn from the above, to speak victory over defeat. Whatever difficulty you might be facing today, don't let it ruin your day. Speak life over it! Change the negative to positive. Bring the life of God into it all. Prevail over adversities in Jesus Name.

You are an overcomer!

''When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.’’ (John 6:14)
